Oven Care & Self Help Tips
In order to prolong the life of your oven, there are a few simple things you should know.
PRO TIP: No oven repairer should ever need to take your oven out of your home for repair.
Keep Your Oven Dry.
It’s OK to clean your oven with regular spray on, leave, wipe off type oven cleaners. The important thing is to DRY YOUR OVEN AFTER CLEANING. This is best achieved by heating up your oven after cleaning it, then turn it off, open the door and let it dry out/cool down naturally. If you clean your oven and don’t do this, then corrosion will slowly rust away a lot of the metal components inside your oven, reducing it's lifespan.
Be Gentle With Your Oven.
On multi function ovens, bring the temperature knob back to zero before switching selector switch between oven functions (fan oven/grill/conventional bake etc). This way, you avoid damaging the oven selector switch, which in some cases are expensive and hard to get.
Also, always be sure to never slam or step/lean on your oven door while it is open.
Don't try DIY repairs. Ovens can be very unforgiving.
It is tempting. but don't try to fix your oven yourself. You can often make the problem more difficult to diagnose, or much worse.
Timer Flashing?
Without your oven's digital clock/timer set, your oven will not operate. When your clock is flashing it usually indicates that the time will need to be set in order to continue the normal operation of the oven. This usually happens when your oven or home loses power temporarily.
Manual and Auto Modes
If your oven is set on auto mode, you may not be able to cook until you set it properly or change the mode to manual. All ovens are different but most have timer knobs that have a hand to indicate manual mode, or will need to be pushed in and/or twisted to be set back to manual.
Enjoy Your Oven
Preparing and eating a meal at home is one of the few last remaining family togetherness activities. Look after your oven, cook your favorite recipes and put some time aside with your family to enjoy
